VALÉRIE MOURIGEAU

VM CONTEMPORARY CERAMICS

Ceramicist, CERGY (95)

Valérie tells us how ceramics have always been an essential part of her daily life, and then how she made it her profession, trained by big names in the field.

Tell us your story, how did your vocation come to you?

For many years, ceramics, drawing, pastels, and sculpture were essential hobbies for my well-being. A few years ago, I decided to change careers. I completed professional training at the School of Ceramic Arts and Techniques under Grégoire Scalabre and Christophe Bonnard to become a ceramic artist specializing in pottery throwing.

How would you describe your style, your artistic approach, in a few words?

I like to combine soft tones and contemporary shapes, giving a touch of elegance to ceramics.

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

I enjoy exploring different avenues, working with different types of sandstone with varying textures, and experimenting with colors. I like to challenge myself, sometimes risky but always professionally enriching.

How do you work?

After opening a boutique workshop with my daughter in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, I decided to set up my production workshop at home, in the Paris region, in a room dedicated to my work. I work exclusively with stoneware (white, black, red, smooth chamotte) because it's a raw material that allows me a multitude of possibilities.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

Every day I wake up with new ideas (which germinated during the night, sometimes preventing me from finding sleep), and I realize how lucky I am to have this exciting job that offers a field of limitless possibilities.
