DIANE PAINSON

Illustrator & restorer, Rennes (35)

Diane shares with us her passion for drawing, and her way of "metaphorically capturing on paper" the ideas and values that drive her.

Tell us your story, how did your vocation come to you?

I've been drawing since I was a child; it came quite naturally. I started with drawing, then painting and sculpting. But I returned to my first love a few years ago: illustration. As for furniture, I've always loved the idea of giving a second life to objects considered outdated, and of elevating what seems decrepit.

How would you describe your style, your artistic approach, in a few words?

My style oscillates between the dreamlike and the surreal. I also like to capture on paper, in a metaphorical way, the ideas and values that inspire me.

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

The world of imagination, esotericism, and feminist themes are central to my creations.

How do you work?

Mostly at home or in the workshop, depending on the work to be done. Always with good music in my ears!

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

The life of an artist is truly enriching on a daily basis, but one shouldn't idealize what is often romanticized. It's a lifestyle choice fraught with sacrifices and hard work. This must be understood when embarking on this path. There are as many joys as disappointments, as many rejections as successes and inspiring projects! It's a profession where the key words are passion and tenacity!

Do you have a message you'd like to share, or anything else you'd like to say?

Art is a solitary act that gains depth when it is shared!
