ALLISON MONTERRAIN - MUGEN

MUGEN

painter, Colomiers (31)

Allison, also known as Mugen, takes us into her vast artistic universe, inspired by dinosaurs and mythological monsters.

Tell us your story, how did your vocation come to you?

Having been drawn to art from a young age, first through piano and then dance, I also pursued a course in art history.
I have since taken up learning the violin and am rediscovering through visual art a true pleasure and a real way to express myself.

How would you describe your style, your artistic approach, in a few words?

I think it's very varied because I'm always looking for new techniques to master. I like to use fine and diverse materials.

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

Dinosaurs first of all, these are a real passion of mine.
I then expand on mythological monsters, such as the phoenix or the kaiju (which is also the name of my dog).
I believe I find in it a certain grandeur, a virtuosity that brings us humans back to our very small place.

How do you work?

In my living room, where I also have the piano and the violin. This is my artistic zone.
I'm looking for original methods like styracosaur fixings, I love DIY so it's a breeze.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

I have autism spectrum disorder, my two children also have their own cognitive particularities (ASD, ADHD, dyslexia) so my daily life is rather hectic.
I also have another job as a dog trainer; I also like the challenge there, and I have specialized in aggressive dogs.

Do you have a message you'd like to share, or anything else you'd like to say?

Live your dreams! Don't stop yourself from thinking "how am I going to manage", or "how will society accept what I do?"….
Dare to live, be happy and the rest will follow.
