KALI CERAMIST DESIGNER

"I only work with the coil technique and I don't produce series. Each piece is unique, that's important to me."

KARINE, Kali ceramist designer

KALI CERAMIST DESIGNER

Ceramicist, Hossegor (40)

Karine shares her story with us, or how life led her to turn to her passion, ceramics.

Tell us your story, how did your vocation come to you?

As a child I dreamed of studying fine arts, but the art world was light years away from mine.
I was interested in everything about art, and I tried my hand at it in many areas as an amateur.
I became (among other things) an interior decorator
Then one day the illness reared its ugly head and I found myself disabled.
Having always had the idea of doing ceramics, this was the perfect time for me!
I have been training myself at home for a year and a half.
I watched a lot of reels on Instagram, bought my first loaves of bread, and that was it!

How would you describe your style, your artistic approach, in a few words?

I love round shapes and large pieces.
The light fixture particularly appeals to me, and the sculpture as well.

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

Nature, Woman

How do you work?

I transformed my garage into a workshop. I worked with earthenware, then chamotte earthenware, and now chamotte stoneware.
I only work with the coil technique and I do not make series.
Each piece is unique, that's important to me.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

My illness, rheumatoid arthritis, is sometimes very painful; becoming a ceramicist is also, besides being a passion, a way to maintain control over my joints.

Do you have a message you'd like to share, or anything else you'd like to say?

Always believe in your dreams!
