KOKENOMORI

Kokedama and plant art creation, Gières (38)

The creative couple tells us how their passion for Japanese culture led them to create Kokenomori.

Tell us your story, how did your vocation come to you?

We (Fanny and Donatien) are both huge fans of Japanese culture and our shared interest in DIY and other creative hobbies led us to create Kokenomori to share our love of Kokedamas, a minimalist Japanese plant art that has captivated us.

How would you describe your style, your artistic approach, in a few words?

Through our Kokedamas, we wish to bring a touch of nature into people's daily lives, to green their interiors in an original and aesthetic way.

What themes or subjects inspire you most in your work?

Nature above all else. Walking in the forest, taking the time to recharge in unspoiled places. Also, many Japanese artists inspire us, as does the minimalist Japanese art of botany.

How do you work?

We make all our Kokedamas by hand using natural materials. We carefully select our plants, choosing those best suited to the art of Kokedama.

Do you have a particular technique, a specific expertise? Without revealing all your secrets, have you developed your own methods and techniques?

There are many schools in Japan specializing in the art of Kokedama; through our various experiences, we have also developed our own expertise, particularly in the materials we use, including substrates for the plant.

Tell us about your daily life, your constraints, your joys, your successes…

Craftsmanship is an exciting adventure in which we greatly thrive! It brings us great joy when we see people appreciate our work, and it is thanks to them that we can realize our dream.

Do you have a message you'd like to share, or something you'd like to pass on?

Plants are essential to our well-being, so adopt a Kokedama ;)
