Turned wood vase - French craftsmanship

In wood, tension does not always break.

It acts deep within, shifting lines, opening the form without shattering it.

The gap thus appears, not as a rupture, but as a contained movement.

An internal shift that offsets the volume and alters its balance.

The growth rings follow this displacement.

They widen, tighten, distort, recording every tension.

Nothing is added.

Everything is already there, in the wood’s growth, in its memory.

The piece reveals this silent work:

a held form, traversed by a force that opens it without destroying it.

Constellation Robinia

These pieces come from the same robinia trunk.

Each section invites a different reading,

not through formal variation,

but through a shift in perspective.

Some forms assert themselves.

Others hold back.

Écarture sits between these two states.

The volume asserts itself,

but the form holds back in the gap it contains.

Écarture extends the Tension series through its treatment of growth rings, fissures, and openness. The turned wood reveals its internal forces, between hollow volume, growth lines, and contained movement.
