Description

Turned wood sculpture - French craftsmanship

This sculptural piece is made from fig wood turned while still green. Drying has caused slight natural deformations, visible in the curve of the volume and the irregularity of the upper rim. These movements of the material give the piece its unique character.

______

The transformation process blends several approaches: a partially charred base, inspired by yakisugi, which reveals the deep texture of the wood, its grain, and its knots; then a light casein patina, enhanced with lime and ash, which softens the surface and catches the light.

_____

The transition between the charred areas and the mineral surface is intentionally irregular. It creates a living, almost organic border between darkness and light. The upper rim, highlighted with a discreet touch of ochre, adds a precious note without breaking the raw balance of the whole.

_______

The interior, treated in a deep matte black, does not reveal itself immediately. It holds the gaze without showing everything. It is here that the piece gets its name: a Threshold (Seuil).

It marks a passage between two states — shadow and light, charred wood and mineral surface, raw material and calmed form.

______

Open, yet restrained, it seems to invite without fully yielding what it contains.

______

Every detail — knots, variations in material, traces of fire, light patina, slight deformations — is embraced and contributes to the object's unique identity.

Positioning

Seuil belongs to the TENSION series,

centered on turned wood, inhabited void, material contrasts, and the passages between interior and exterior.

Seuil is a decorative sculpture, designed to dialogue with light, shadows, and surrounding materials.

It finds its place as much in a contemporary interior as in a more raw, mineral, or minimalist setting.

Presented alone, it fully asserts its sculptural character. Accompanied by dried elements, it retains a sober and singular presence.

Atelier H
