Unique piece.
Natural round shape in green fig tree.
The fig tree that is still “green” (filled with its sap) is very easy to work with a wood lathe. The long chips spring from the gouge with ease and fly throughout the workshop.
The exterior and interior shape at the time of digging is sought as close as possible to the perfect sphere.
The preserved wall is approximately 3 mm thick
As soon as turning is finished, the wood begins to deform offering its own natural curves. In a few days the dry piece can be sanded.
The tensions of the wood are stabilized and the piece takes its final shape more or less distant from that at the start of the work.
The preserved bark adds a natural and rustic note to the work.
An impregnation with linseed oil completes the object which has become a bucolic work shaped by moving matter.
It's always a special moment to return to the workshop the day after filming to admire the new curves that emerged during the night.
